Title: Introduction to Home Care Nursing

Home health care is one of the fastest growing specialty areas for nurses and therapists alike. With the aging population and the desire to keep seniors out of institutional care, this field will continue to grow well into the future. Home care provides nurses the opportunity to work with patients in their residences, continually helping them solve problems and integrating the plan of care with their everyday activities, as well as working in collaboration with physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and social workers.

One unique challenge in home care is that clinicians must have a firm understanding of reimbursement rules and regulations to assure that visits are documented according to regulatory guidelines so that the agency receives proper payment for visits.

CLN has developed an online Introduction to Home Care Nursing program in consultation with the Connecticut Association for Home Care. This program is designed to help registered nurses make a seamless transition to this new area of specialty nursing practice.

The program's twelve units can be completed in as few as six weeks. Participants may, however, take up to twelve months from the date of registration to complete the program. Nurses will receive 45 contact hours of continuing education credit on successful completion of the program. The program does not offer college credit.

Nurses can enroll at any time throughout the year; the program is not related to academic schedules. After you register, you set the pace for your learning. Units are online, available when it's convenient for you. And, you don't have to complete a unit in one sitting if you don't have the time to! An expert home care nurse is available to guide students as a faculty mentor.
