Congratulations to Dr. Kathleen Wheeler, one of the distinguished honorees that will be recognized throughout the year culminating in a state-wide celebration at CLN's 65th Jubilee in June 2018.

About the Honoree
Dr. Kathleen Wheeler is a Professor and the Coordinator of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program at Fairfield University School of Nursing.  Kate developed this program which was the first PMHNP Program in Connecticut. She served as co-chair of the National Panel that developed the first PMHNP Competencies which provided curriculum guidelines nationally for this specialty.
 
Her book "Psychotherapy for the Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse" has been adopted by many graduate programs in psychiatric nursing in the country and has received a number of awards. Kate has practiced in Connecticut as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse specializing in trauma for the past 25 years. 
 
Kate is a leader in projects that are highly significant to the future of psychiatric nursing.  As a board certified PMHNP, she specializes in psychological trauma and holds additional certifications in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), hypnotherapy, and psychoanalysis.  Kate has served as a consultant on numerous research projects and has published research with colleagues from all over the world.  She is a consultant, facilitator, and trainer for EMDR therapy and the past President of EMDRIA, an international organization founded to uphold the standards for EMDR therapy.
