About the Honoree
Susan McGinnis is an example of excellence in the nursing profession as a dedicated educator and leader. Her nursing career has spanned decades in both practice and academia. In practice positions ranging from Staff Nurse in Obstetrics to Vice-President of Nursing Services. In academia, Faculty positions held at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lancaster, PA; the University of Bridgeport; and Sacred Heart University.
She has been a leader of cutting edge initiatives to promote the profession of nursing. Susan participated in the development of the Nursing Career Center of Connecticut (NCCC) and served as the Interim Executive Director, authoring an article on attracting nurses back into clinical care, and participated in the development of the RN Refresher Course in collaboration with Charter Oak State College and the CT Distance Learning Consortium; Susan's ideas and energy are unstoppable!
In addition to having many positions in the nursing profession, Susan was a member of: the Board of Directors for the CT Hospital Association for 5 years, the Governor's Task Force on Nursing Shortage and is currently a member of NLN, CLN and Sigma Theta Tau. She has been involved with CLN over many years as Board Member, Treasurer, President of the Board and Executive Director of the League. She currently is on the CLN Program Committee and is a Consultant.
Susan is a positive thinker and an exceptional mentor and leader. She leads by example and models high ethical standards as well as sets similar expectations for all. She articulates goals, objectives and expectations clearly and has impressive facilitation skills to build and manage effective teams. Susan is always supportive, effectively delegates and consistently encourages others to grow.
