Join us on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 for the 2017 Simulation Leadership Workshop facilitated by Valerie Howard EdD, MSN, RN.
CLN Members of: The Council of Deans and Directors, Healthcare Simulation Network of Connecticut (HSNCT), Board Leadership, and Key faculty and Faculty & Staff involved in Simulated Teaching & Learning
Workshop is FREE, but pre-registration is required.
Upon completion of this workshop, the attendee will be able to:
- Identify the Key Elements to create a Simulation Center Strategic Plan
- Develop and Implement Innovative Strategies to sustain Simulation Center Initiatives
- Incorporate Evidence Based National Standards in Simulation Center Operations

Meet the Speaker
Valerie M. Howard, EdD, MSN, RN, Dean of School of Nursing & Health Sciences; Robert Morris Universi
Valerie Howard EdD, MSN, RN, is Dean and a University Professor of Nursing for Robert Morris University's (RMU) School of Nursing and Health Sciences. She is also the founder and director of RMU's Regional Research and Innovation in Simulation Education (RISE) Center, raising over $6M in funding for a new facility, and past-President of the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation in Nursing (INACSL), from which she received an Excellence Award in Research in 2010.
Dr. Howard served as a team member for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant funding and RAVEN CMS funded initiative. She serves on the board for the Pennsylvania Higher Education in Nursing Schools Association. Dr. Howard is a Team STEPPS master Trainer and has served in numerous leadership roles, such as Academic Department Head and Assistant Dean for External Affairs while at RMU.
Dr. Howard has over 20 years of experience in higher education, with the past eleven years dedicated to researching, developing and implementing simulation experiences across the curriculum. She was responsible for integrating academically sound simulation experiences for undergraduate and graduate students at RMU. In addition to supervising the expansion and accreditation of the RMU Simulation Lab into the RISE Center, she also created and implemented the Leadership in Simulation Instruction and Management online certificate program to assist with integrating this complex training methodology. Dr. Howard has been a national and international resource for simulation, continuing to provide service to INACSL, SSH and other global simulation organizations.
